13 days, Inclusive of domestic flights, lodge/resort stays, adventure and nature excursions
Discover what ‘tropical paradise’ really means in this nature-abundant, adventure-loving nation where the locals, or ‘Ticos’ can’t wait to welcome you with a cup of their beloved coffee and show off their homeland. Straddling the Pacific and Caribbean, Costa Rica also has 600 miles of unspoiled beaches to choose from…but enough about them. What about you?
Day 1 and the master suite at the artist-owned, sustainability-minded Finca Rosa Blanca, nestled in a coffee plantation beckons. The property is the perfect start to a fortnight of exploration, that kicks off on Day 2 with a helicopter flight to the Pacuare Lodge. Here in your fully kitted out standalone bungalow suite, surrounded by the lush rainforest and a river that feels made for white water rafting, a host of experiences await, from canyoning to birdwatching, an ancient trail and hidden waterfall hike, to canopy tours and a visit to the indigenous Cabecar community. Throughout, campfire dinners, deli-style lunches, and fine wines will keep you fuelled for whatever comes next!
Next up, from Day 5 is an inspiration-seeker’s dream, Nayara Springs, home to the stunning Arenal Volcano and every outdoor activity you probably have on your ‘must-do in Costa Rica’ list. Families can head to Nayara Gardens while over-18s can stroll across the footbridge to the adults-only Nayara Springs property, complete with open-air spa rooms, on-site-roasted coffee and your very own plunge pool fed by natural mineral hot springs – we’re not promising that it’s kind of like the Fountain of Youth…but we’re not saying it’s that different either! If you can tear yourself away from the glories of the resort, hit the volcano for a private hike, allow the knowledgeable guide to drive you around looking for adorable sloths, brights birds and more.
Halfway through your trip, and it’s time to board a private charter plane to Lapa Rios Eco Lodge, Puerto Jimenez for three nights. This fascinating sanctuary is in the midst of tropical wildlife, including so many birds that you’d be forgiven for thinking the winds were painted with feathers. Adding to the sheer bliss of the destination is the host of yoga and spa sessions available, locally-sourced food, medicine hike, rainforest ridge walk, bird tours, trails, and a deluxe bungalow with a view that we honestly cannot do justice with just words!
Finally, four nights in a luxurious refuge by Ballena National Marine Park, where private, ocean-facing jungle villas round out the journey. From the comfort of your suite, toucans, parrots, hummingbirds and all manner of creatures may be seen, while snorkelling excursions and kayaking through mangroves give you the chance to see those who prefer a more aquatic existence.
