Scottish Ocean Expedition

Caledonia is calling from the banks of Loch Lomond and beyond on this expedition made for intrepid luxurians.

Six night luxury cruise around the Hebrides with shore walks

The cruise begins on dry land with a night at the magnificent Cameron Hall, before a short trip to the scenic harbour town of Oban where you will find your crew and stateroom waiting. The first port of call is Loch Scavaig and an energetic hike into the hills, followed by a peek into the entrance of Loch Coruisk.

We hope you’re sitting down for what comes next – the Outer Hebrides. Renowned for its exquisite beauty featuring beaches, hills, machair and moor all on a small island, this was the stronghold of the Clan MacNeil and last resting place of author Compton Mackenzie, who wrote Whisky Galore. The wild islands of Mingulay, Berneray and Pabbay lie just south of Barra, and boast some of the finest coastal landscapes in Scotland. Spellbinding. Next up is an archipelago so remote that they’re called the ‘islands at the edge of the world’, uninhabited save for the sea bird breeding station – the most important in north west Europe.

Your journey continues from the highest cliffs in St Kilda to the low-lying Monach Isles, filled with rare carpet flowers and a large seal population. These islands are specially protected, providing the perfect backdrop for quiet walks, paddling and surprisingly white sandy beaches.

The secluded Coll and sunny Tiree are up next. At about 12 miles long and just over 3 miles wide, they may be small but offer up a chance to kayak and even encounter basking sharks. Following a bit of a break, Staffa is set to amaze with its hexagonal basalt columns – Fingal’s Cave.

Finally, it’s back to Oban and time to say goodbye to one hell of an incredible vessel – and one hell of an incredible experience in an environment few have the pleasure of exploring.
